Probiotics are very beneficial to our health. Here are just a few benefits of taking a Probiotic:
---Enhancement of immunity against intestinal infections
----Immune enhancement
----Prevention of diarrhea and diseases
----Prevention of colon cancer: probiotics are thought to prevent cancer by inhibition of carcinogens, activation of the host's immune system, prevention of microbial activity by lowering pH, and altering colonic motility.
----Prevention of hypercholesterolemia (An excess of cholesterol in the bloodstream)
----Improvement in lactose utilization: L. acidophilus and bifidobacteria produce an enzyme which auto digests lactose and improves tolerance to lactose.
----Prevention of upper gastrolintenstinal tract diseases
----Stabilization of the gut mucosal barrier
Unfortunately, you can't just go purchase any old Probiotic. Because not all probiotic supplements are created equally. Some on the market have been shown to have inaccurate labeling and may not contain all of the probiotics that they say they do. One study tested 14 commerical probiotics and found that only one contained the exact species listed on the label.
If you are buying probiotics from the drug store chances are you are buying nothing more than fluff. Considering probiotics are delicate live bacteria- they can die during high heat processing, packaging, or while living at the shelves at the store.
If you are wanting a good Probiotic look for one that has at least these 4 bacteria strains.
--Acideophilus: naturally found in mouth, intestine and vagina (often prescribed for yeast infections). Promotes nutrient absorption and facilitates dairy digestion. I was actually lactose intolerant before starting Probiotcs and after being on one for a couple weeks I tried ice cream and felt totally normal. It was great!
--Bifidum: Found in small and large intestines. Necessary for optimal digestion within digestive tract.
--Longum: Anti-Inflammatory, protects gut lining, keeps toxins and pathogens out of the gut.
--Chitosanase: this is important for breaking down the cell walls especially in the eradication of Candida, and removing it from the intestinal tract.
These probiotic bacteria have documented desirable clinical effects. They produce organic acids, such as lactic and acetic acids, which lower intestinal pH and inhibit the growth of pathogens. These organic acids also increase movement within the gut, thereby indirectly removing pathogens by accelerating their rate of transit through the large intestine - producing detoxifying effects.
If you are looking for a good Probiotic I recommend Probio5. Most Probiotics do not have these strains of bacteria. I have been on it for over a year. I used to have trouble going to the bathroom, my PMS was crazy, I had bad acne, I was lactose intolerant, and now I am none of those things. Our bodies need a good probiotic to help fight off the bad and replenish the good. If you are interested in purchasing Probio5, you can head to my website at shopmyplexus.com/astitcher
